Another semester has come to a close and I am once again preparing myself to make the semi annual trek north to our retreat on Vancouver Island. A few years ago I started sending photos and descriptions of our life there to our friends in California via email. Since then I am always reminded to send the "Bowser Updates" back. This blog opportunity fell into my lap when I started to explore the on-line teaching classes offered by my peers so I thought I should try my hand at it, might as well, maybe I'll learn something as well as have an outlet for my blathering. Just ten days until we are there and John has already been there for ten. I am sure he is enjoying his solitude and respite from our complex family life. He tells me the area is thick with bald eagles and while he was contemplating life looking out to sea one of them dropped a bullhead on John's head! Fortunately that type of fish is sardine like and all Johns cognitive abilities remain intact. Don't tell the kids but he also shared with me we have a black bear ambling around the neighborhood. John was making coffee and staring out the kitchen window when a big black "dog" caught his eye. Double take and there is a black bear walking down the left side of the road (he must know his road rules and walking facing traffic is the safest) just ambling along. Great! Yogi is not the celebrity who I want to run into on my morning jog. Better a Yogi than Snagglepuss, you don't see cougars until they are about to rip your throat out. It is a late spring with few berries and the bears has a rumblin in their tumblin. I will have to stick with the main roads and stay off the trails for awhile.
